ELECTION THANKS
Thank you; step one (1) and two (2) completed.
Thanks to each and all of you who helped in my successful bid for election to the Coventry Town Council, and subsequent confirmation.
I was most privileged to have accepted the oath of office to serve as a member of the Coventry Town Council under the authority of Governor Donald Carcieri at the Town Council Meeting held on Monday November 24, 2008. With this endorsement, I remain most grateful and thankful for all the assistance, help and support provided and shown me during the four (4) month period of fulfilling the duties, responsibilities tasks, obligations and expectations required of one seeking consideration to candidacy on the Coventry Town Council. To be sure, they were much and many, but were accomplished only because of your involvement and participation, without which they could not have been achieved.
I am most pleased to be given this opportunity to serve you in the capacity of Town Councilman for District 1, and look forward to serving you as your new elected Council Vice President.
Step three (3) and on we now go.
Your encouragement, support, and prayers for my efforts in Council accomplishment, generates my deepest and most sincere thanks and affords me the opportunity to extend my heart and hand to each of you, as I welcome your suggestions, expressions of concern or thoughts for improvement in my service in your behalf.
Most Sincerely,
Ray Spear
The Choice is Clear, Vote Ray Spear
I have been an active and involved member of the community of Coventry for some 28 years and have proudly, and with distinction, served as its Superintendent of Schools and a member of its School Committee for 20 of those 28 years.
Upon my retirement as Superintendent in June of 1996, I sought out and found other activities in which I became involved, but noted, as the years went by, that I was becoming disenchanted with how some things were happening in the governing of our Schools and Town. Thus my entering into the activities of the School Committee in 2004, and by service therewith for the past 3 and one-half plus years.
My closer working relationship with Town government via being a member of the School Committee has resulted in my sincere belief that communications between all parties in the Community need some rather serious adjustments; between Town Council and School Committee, between the Town Council and taxpayers, and between the Town Council and its employees. Much work to be done. I believe I can be of service.
What’s going on? What’s happening? Why is it that our citizens don’t know until the last minute? Why don’t our citizens know some things before they are told “this is it”.
I believe we are, or certainly should be, a community of the people, by the people and for the people. Somewhere along the line, this concept seems to have gotten lost. It is for this reason that I have decided to run for the Town Council - District 1 seat.
My background, experience in general and my service to the community clearly establish my qualifications to seek this honor and privilege and I pledge to seek the fulfillment of a commitment to right the shortcomings that exist within the leadership of our community.
My campaign slogan is “The choice is clear, Vote Ray Spear" and I support this statement.
